Unable to lock file (Oracle 8i) 2004-04-02 - By Black, Alain
Isaac,
Since it's on a NAS, I'm going to assume NFS, so I'll ask the obvious question, is the NFS lock daemon running? You can't lock files across an NFS mount without it.

I've been running into this error trying to create a. 8.1.7 database on a new server with SLES 8.1. The database is on a (NAS) Network Appliance filer. Any ideas what might need to be changed in order to free up locks?
ORA-01501 (See ORA-01501.ora-code.com): CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-19504 (See ORA-19504.ora-code.com): failed to create file "/oradata/mydb/control01.ctl"
ORA-27086 (See ORA-27086.ora-code.com): skgfglk: unable to lock file - already in use
Linux Error: 37: No locks available
